Here is a story about a picture taken from the late 1800's of a man sitting on a dead horse in the middle of the street on the south side of Sheboygan. Who the man was and why he is sitting on the horse is a mystery but apparently its a popular mystery, as it has been circulating around the Internet.
I never even heard of the photo. Granted I probably visited the Sheboygan Historical Society, once my whole life but the photo isn't a popular lore around town.
Sometimes I am really proud to be from Sheboygan: known for its brats, surfing and pictures of men sitting on dead horses.

Since that "dead horse in the street" photo came around, it may be worth noting that Sheboygan's nascent surfing scene got some free attention by way of the hit animated "mockumentary" Surf's Up--specifically, by way of the "Chicken Joe" character (voiced by Jon Heider), who is from Sheboygan himself.
And, it turns out, happens to come to the unwitting assistance of one Cody Maverick seeking his ticket out of Shiverpool, Antartica in spite of the skepticism of one Mort Abramowitz, takent scout for the rather arrogant surf promoter Reggie Belafonte.
How many out of Sheboygan, come to think of it, have seen Surf's Up themselves thanks to the free publicity thus given Sheboygan?
